Indexes are one of the most essential components of relational databases, and one of the least well-understood by many application developers. They are critical for good database performance, but they are not a magic "go-faster" button. This talk goes over different kinds of indexes, how they help various specific types of queries, and when you shouldn't use indexes in the first place. The example database will be PostgreSQL.
